How To Translate YouTube Videos Online
Steps in a nutshell:
- Upload YouTube video to VEED
- Create automated subtitles to your video in its original language
- Automatically translate these subtitles
- Upload the subtitles to YouTube
Yes, you can do all these steps in less than a minute (if we subtract the few minutes of waiting for the subtitles to get generated).
1. Upload your YouTube video to translate
To start off with, you’re going to need to upload your video to VEED.
Hit More upload options, and pick where you want to upload your video from - VEED accepts content from:
- Local files
- Your camera
- YouTube video links
- Dropbox
If you’ve got an account with VEED already, you can pick a video from an existing project.
You can enter the YouTube URL in the Upload Page.
2. Go to Subtitles in the left toolbar
Head to the left hand toolbar and hit the Subtitles button. Here, you can pick between adding automatic subtitles, writing in manual subtitles or subtitles from an external file.
3. Activate Auto subtitles
VEED will translate the auto subtitles into other languages later on, hence the need to do this step, first.
4. Choose the language and click Start
In the language settings, specify the language and region for accurate transcription.
Depending on how long your content is, this process could take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. It’s important to be patient and to let the video editing tool work its magic, so that you get the best result possible. This will create closed captions for your video. These auto generated captions are quite accurate but you can check the subtitle editor for any errors.
Alternatively, if you already have YouTube captions at your disposal, you can simply upload them to the editor and translate them in a foreign language.
5. Go to Translate
6. Auto Translate your automated subtitles in different languages!
Translate from the original language. Hit Create to automatically create automatic captions in different languages. There you have it. Auto translated captions for your videos.
You can use the auto translation tool to any languages that you want to translate your video to.
7a. Download translations as individual files by clicking the file name
In the Translate tab, click the translation file name to individually download it.
7b. Download translations as a zipped file under Options
Under Options, download all the auto translations as a zipped file.
The SRT and VTT are time coded caption files. The TXT is not. If you upload the former two to YouTube, they will accurately play when the sound comes up.
7c. Activate the right language and hit Export to download the YouTube video with the subtitles automatically showing!
8. Upload translated subtitles to YouTube
Congrats! You’ve just learned how to generate auto translated captions for YouTube. Just go to YouTube Studio, and add the captions to your video!
4 Other Ways To Make The Most Out Of Your Content
One of the main reasons why it’s important to be able to translate videos and add YouTube captions is that it makes content accessible to more people.
To help you make your content suitable for even more audiences and platforms, we’ve gathered 4 handy tips here for you;
1) Change the style of captions
In the subtitles editor, you can change the style of your video captions. This includes changing the font, the spacing, size and so on of your closed captions.
2) Crop and adjust your video’s size to repurpose for other platforms
If you’re hoping to get your content in front of a wider audience, you can adjust the size of your videos to make them more suitable for other platforms.
For example, cropping down a Twitch VOD clip to a 1:1 ratio could make it perfect for uploading to an Instagram page. Video content can be repurposed and rejigged in a number of ways- it’s very versatile.
To do this with VEED, head to the settings button in the left hand toolbar and select size. Here, you’ll be able to pick out a number of different aspect ratios.
As a side-note, be sure to add subtitles for these other platforms too! When you change the aspect ratio with VEED, the subtitles automatically adjusts with the new aspect ratio!
3) Experiment with new kinds of content
The key to making a content strategy pop is the willingness to try out new things. Having a standard content series is fine, of course, but having other projects and pieces is brilliant for engagement.
Let’s suppose you run a beauty YouTube channel, for example. What else could you provide for your audience alongside tutorials and reviews? Daily vlogs on Instagram could be great, as could short tutorials on TikTok or mini reviews on Instagram Reels.
4) Create a series of content
Having a series is great for keeping viewers engaged and for encouraging people to come back to you. There’s no need to start a brand new series, though- repurposing old pieces and making them into a series is entirely possible.
Take a look at the last piece of content you created, and work out whether you could make a series out of it. Could you use the format with another theme, for example? Would it work well in a slightly different format?
Ready To Make and Translate Your First Video
Video without captions get less engagement than those with. If you also have additional captions in other languages, you can get more viewers in other languages.
