Why should you transcribe your YouTube videos?
1) YouTube video transcriptions are great for taking notes and looking for important keywords
Whether you’re looking to transcribe a YouTube video for an article or a student taking notes around a certain topic, having YouTube video transcriptions is a great way to quickly find quotes and locate certain parts of the video.
As you already know, searching for specific information or keywords in a video is next to impossible even with today’s most powerful search engines.
In your transcription, you just need to find the instances in which the keywords were said to locate them! This is as simple as hitting cmd+f or ctrl+f in your keyboard and entering the keyword.
Finally, you can also automatically translate these transcriptions, so if you’re not fluent in the original language, you can easily translate the content to better understand it!
2) Adding subtitles will make your YouTube videos more engaging
Get more viewers by automatically transcribing your YouTube videos and adding subtitles.
Simply put, people will be able to watch your videos on mute by reading the captions instead. Plus, you’re making your content even more accessible! It’s a win-win situation.
But of course, subtitles aren’t just effective on YouTube. Subtitles also work well for other social media platforms, like TikTok, Instagram (including Stories and Reels), LinkedIn, Facebook and even Twitter.
Of course, do keep in mind that when you’re posting your videos to other channels, you’ll also need to have to change the aspect ratio. With VEED, when you change your video’s aspect ratio, the subtitles will also adapt to the new ratio.
Read our post on social media video aspect ratios to learn more about this.
3) Uploading your subtitle files separately will help you get more organic search traffic on YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn
Did you know that Youtube’s algorithms “reads” the subtitles you upload as an .srt or .vtt to index your video content faster and more effectively?
That’s right! If you include subtitles to your YouTube videos, you have more chances of ranking in Google or YouTube’s search results for specific keywords. This allows you to get more organic search traffic.
LinkedIn and Facebook also let you upload your subtitle files separately, so the same principle might apply to this social media platform.
On LinkedIn, it’s likely true that .srt files help the algorithms better understand the post content to categorize and distribute it to its users.
4) Translating your subtitles will help you attract more international viewers
Translating your subtitles has the clear benefit of attracting more viewers from around the world, who will finally be able to follow your content in other languages.
This is especially important if you have a significant number of viewers that speak one specific language. It also shows that you’re recognizing their worth and taking steps in ensuring that they can consume your content better.
Not only that, but translating your subtitles will also inform Google that your YouTube video is available to view in other languages. Therefore, you can start appearing in search results that aren’t in English.
