How to calculate your TikTok engagement rate
Just like on any other platform, a creator who develops a large following starts to wonder how they can monetise their following. TikTok, being one of the biggest platforms lately, has amassed a large amount of creators looking to exchange their likes and engagement for money.
If we look at a platform such as Instagram, which doesn't yet have a way to let its users monetise their content, the biggest way creators earn money on the platform is through shoutouts and paid partnerships with brands.
When working with a brand on Instagram, a key way to know the value of a post on your page is by the number of your followers and calculating your page's engagement rate.
But how do you calculate your engagement rate on TikTok?
The TikTok algorithm is different compared to most social media platforms. So I'm going to show you exactly how to calculate your TikTok account's engagement rate right now.
How to calculate your engagement rate on TikTok
When looking to calculate your engagement rate, you need the following 3 metrics:
- Total hearts/likes
- Total followers
- Total posts
To get your total post count you'll need to manually count them on your page. And make sure to only include your public posts.
Once you have these three metrics, you can calculate the engagement rate by using the following equation.
So that is the calculation to see your engagement rate percentage.
Now, using my profile, I'm going to show you what kind of results you can expect.
So as you can see I have a total of 130600 likes, 4620 followers and a total of 54 public posts which I had to count manually. And make sure you only include your public posts, don't include posts set to private.
So I have an engagement rate of roughly 52% on my engagement rate.
Due to TikTok still being a relatively new platform within the influencer marketing space, it's hard to determine how much a post on an account with 4600 followers and an engagement rate of 53% is worth.
There are so many different factors when it comes to a brand deal on TikTok, that it would be impossible to set a determined price. The price can vary depending on the number of followers you have, the amount of times you post a day, your niche, your target demographic and much much more. So if you are planning on working with a brand, just make sure it's a price you are comfortable with.
But at least now you can calculate your engagement rate on TikTok. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.
