Are you curious to learn how to use a GIF splitter online for free?

GIFs or Graphics Interchange Format are created by combining multiple image frames together into a specific sequence. You may want to extract a specific frame or image from the animation or split the GIF into two shorter ones. Or, maybe, you want to insert another GIF and combine the GIFs into one!

Whatever the reason, splitting a GIF and extracting individual frames shouldn’t be so difficult. We have put together an easy-to-follow tutorial on how to split GIF into frames with our VEED online editor.

How to Use a GIF Splitter from VEED

Step 1: Go to VEED and upload GIF you want to split

Note: If you would like to save your project for the future or start new ones, you can create an account for free. Having a paid account will also bypass the upload file size limit of 50 MB.

You can choose to upload your GIF from:

  • Your local files
  • YouTube (just enter the link)
  • Your webcam
  • Dropbox

Step 2: Drag the playhead

On the GIF timeline, drag the blue line, also known as playhead, to the place where you want to split the GIF into parts. The timestamp above shows the position of the playhead on the timeline.

Step 3: Split the GIF into two parts

Click the “Split” button above the timeline on the left. Just like that, your GIF is now split into two different parts at the time that your playhead is at.

On the timeline, click and drag the white handles at the edge of any side of the GIF segment to edit and trim your GIF as you desire.

Step 4 (optional): Split the GIF into more parts

You can repeat the entire process to split the GIF into multiple parts.

If you want to trim and edit a part of the GIF, simply click on it, and the white handles will show up on both sides. Drag the handles again to edit and trim the part if you want.

Once this is done, place the playhead where you want to split your GIF again. You could either click on the “split” button above the timeline or right-click on the mouse cursor and select the “Split” option in the menu.

Shortcut tip: Click on the GIF part to select it and hit “S” on your keyboard to split it at the moment your playhead is at.

Step 5 (optional): Merge the parts back together

Once you edit your separate GIF parts, an empty gap will appear in the timeline. When you play the GIF, it will appear as a sad black screen, and we don’t want that! To avoid the blackness, drag the separate GIF parts to be next to each other. Now, if you were to play the GIF, you will see the edited parts play right after each other.

Step 6 (optional): Delete parts

Select the part of the GIF you wish to delete. Then, right-click on your mouse or trackpad and choose “Delete” from the menu.

Shortcut tip: Click on the GIF part to select it and hit the “Delete” key on your keyboard.

If you want to undo the delete, click the “undo” button, which looks like a curved arrow to the left in the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 7 (optional): Add different clips

You can also insert new clips in the empty spaces on the timeline. On the right of the timeline, click on the “+” sign to add a new GIF.

Step 8: Download the GIF

Once you’re done with editing the GIF, you can hit the Export button in the top right corner, wait for the GIF to render, and download it in the GIF format.

It was that simple to split the GIF! You could also share the download link with your friends, so that they can enjoy the cool GIF as well.

Other Cool Features to Edit Your GIFs

With VEED’s easy-to-use video editor, editing your GIFs is super easy. You can:

  • Add text to your GIF. You may want to add text to your GIF to turn it into a meme GIF.
  • Add sound to your GIF. You can make your GIF stand out by adding sound or music to it. This changes the GIF into an MP4 file format, though.
  • Combine GIFs together. You can create your own, longer custom GIF by combining several GIFs together.
  • Trim your GIF. If you want to use only a part of the GIF, you can easily cut and trim it to the desired length.
